[E-Daily Reporter Kang Kyung-rae] HANMI Semiconductor (042700) announced on the 2nd that it localized "Dual-chuck SAW" equipment for semiconductor packaging that had relied on imports from Japan.

'micro SAW' equipment released by HANMI Semiconductor cuts semiconductor packages. The company has succeeded in domestic production of semiconductor package SAW equipment by breaking out Japanese businesses that had dominated global markets.

In particular, it is meaningful that Japan's economic retaliation in the second half of 2019 highlighted the importance of self-reliance for domestic IT (materials, components, equipment) and semiconductor equipment.

Kwak Dong-shin, vice chairman of HANMI Semiconductor, said, "Like the 'K-Semiconductor Strategy' recently announced by the government, competition to secure semiconductor technology is intensifying from the private to countries." Especially, it is worthwhile that the company succeeded in replacing imports by localizing products that relied entirely on Japanese imports in the face of the 'Material/Component/Equipment' crisis in the IT sector, which began with Japanese semiconductor hydrogen fluoride export regulations.

In terms of import replacement, it is evaluated that it reduces costs worth KRW 90 billion annually, solves uncertainty in supply and demand, delivers equipment quickly, and increases productivity, convenience, and reliability compared to competitors. Especially, it will provide 18 months of free warranty for longer than its competitors due to confidence in quality."

Demand for semiconductors has increased significantly around the world due to the recent activation of 4th industries such as 5G (5th generation mobile communication), Metaverse, Internet of Things(IoT), artificial intelligence(AI), autonomous driving, connected cars, and data servers. As a result, orders for semiconductor equipment are also increasing rapidly, and additional investments for facilities will be added due to the lack of supply of semiconductors.

The domestic production of 'micro SAW' equipment will raise expectations in the market more than ever before, said a representative for HANMI Semiconductor. "We expect to renew our best performance once again through this year's 'Supercycle' following last year's record performance."
