At 45 years of age, Thiel was a first CEO of PayPal who had successfully won several investments in Facebook, Zinga and LinkedIn. He was ranked 293rd on the Forbes 400 in 2011, with a net worth of $1.5 billion as of March 2012. He currently serves as chairman of global hedge fund firm Clarium Capital, managing partner of venture capital firm Founders Fund, and co-founder and investment committee chair of Mithril Capital Management.
He takes part in this 44billion-won investment together with the SkyLake Incuvest Co.,Ltd. leaded by Dr.Deaje Chin, a former Minister of Ministry of Information & Communication (2003-2006), and Presto Private Equity Funds.
The reason Thiel made an investment in HANMI Semiconductor is he rated its technical capability and growth potential highly. The company was ranked No. 2 by U.S. research firm VLSIresearch in its 2013 semiconductor equipment customer satisfaction survey.
